I’ve just upgraded the TYPO3 source on my website Ropedia.ro from 4.4.5 to 4.5.3 and after that a strange error appeared when trying to submit the registration form (made with sr_feuser_register 2.6.1). It was just saying:

Oops, an error occured!

Validation failed for : Ropedia.ro

These kind of error messages are quite annoying because they are not very descriptive about what the problem really is. So i started digging and it took only a few minutes to find out that this is a problem of TYPO3 4.5 and there is a workaround for this.

Actually you need to insert in typo3conf/localconf.php the following line:

$TYPO3_CONF_VARS['MAIL']['substituteOldMailAPI'] = ’0′;

Or you can just access the Install Tool and uncheck the substituteOldMailAPI checkbox. After you’ve done any of these steps the sr_feuser_register extension should work again. Obviously this is a temporary workaround until either TYPO3 or sr_feuser_register gets patched to solve this problem.

There are reports that tt_products 2.6.x is having the same issue and it can be fixed the same way!

I was working on some website at work and after i clicked on the Page module in TYPO3 (the Page module provided by TemplaVoila) i’ve been presented with the following error message: ”Fatal error: Class ‘Services_JSON’ not found in” + the path to the file.

I have never seen this error message before and i didn’t know at first what it was causing it. After some research i found out that this is caused by a bug in TemplaVoila. If you read the bug report you can find a patch attached. But i wrote this post because there is another solution.

At first i was a little bit annoyed because on other projects i didn’t encounter this bug and i used the same versions of TYPO3 and TemplaVoila. After reading the bug report i checked out in the Install Tool of TYPO3 the CompatibilityVersion. It was set to CompatibilityVersion 3.8! I changed it at once and set it to 4.3 and all problems with this error went away.

So if you encounter this error you might be able to solve it the way i did.

After having some problems with MSIE i activated on one of my sites the config.absRefPrefix directive and set a prefix to all of my URL. I knew that this might cause some problems, especially with RealURL.

But after some testing i found out that RealURL is working as expected but Powermail forms doesn’t. They submit the form to a wrong URL. After some digging i found the solution. It seems that older versions of Powermail (mine was 1.4.7) doesn’t handle correctly the config.absRefPrefix setting.

So i upgraded to the latest version and this solved my problem. Maybe it will help some of you too.

Romania is a country in Central Europe with a population of 20 million people. Not many people from other parts of the world know where is it exactly. But its on the map and its a country. The country I live in. Not according to Google Trends. When checking today for something on Google Trends i wanted to see how that search term evolved in Romania. But big surprise. Romania is not in the list of countries provided by Google in the filter located in the right top corner. There are many other countries with almost insignificant population and some exotic island not even i (with a degree in geography) heard about until today. That is Bouvet Island. Shame on me, but i did not hear about it. And it seems that its not even a country! Its a dependent area of Norway and has 0 (zero) population. But Google wants to give us search term data for that country but not for Romania with 20 million people in it.

Nice work Google! Hire some geography teacher would ya!
